Meet the Airbnb of Africa: Sleepout.com

Posted by Staff Writer on January 30, 2014 in African Tech | 398 Views

Last year I took a trip to Geneva Switzerland. I followed my regular routine, orbitz.com to book the tickets, then hotels.com to get my hotel.  I got the airline tickets, but my routine changed at this point.  Why you may ask? Because hotels in Switzerland are freaking expensive!  There is a reason why they hold the Davos conference in switzerland every year….Politicians and CEOs are the only ones that can afford it!

So I decided to check out airbnb.  For those of you who do not know, airbnb is a cool website, where you can rent rooms in local homes for a fraction of the price you would pay at a hotel.  Anybody can sign up on the site and offer to be a host (i.e. rent out their home).  You can review the ratings of the hosts before choosing to rent a room (so that you don’t end up renting from an ax murderer!).  Excellent idea,  and now this idea is coming to Africa in the form of Sleepout

Currently only available in 6 countries;Kenya,Tanzania,South Africa,Rwanda,Egypt.  Sleepout will offer wanderers the opportunity to rent rooms in peoples homes across the continent.  It will also give Africans the opportunity to make a little change renting out their homes.  Sounds like a win win, which means sleepout could be around for a long time.  This is definitely an idea that is …………………….Staying Mobile!
