So I crashed another tech meetup last week, looking for inspiration. It was a standard techie event. Glasses and hoodies (thanks zuckerberg) everywhere. Talks of android vs iphone, phonegap vs titanium, waterfall and agile methods……… you know, software speak 🙂
There were a few app demos that evening, all very complicated with great UI designs and more functionality than you can imagine, but it was the last demo that really caught my attention.
It was an app called Inigo and the purpose was simple, to replace business cards as we know them today. I have always thought that carrying business cards around in a mobile phone world seems pointless. They are bulky, a waste of money and not to mention every time you get a new job you have to print a new set. If you are like me, every business card you have ever picked up finds its way into the trash, because lets face it, where will you put them anyway?
That is why I think the Inigo app will really catch on. In the app you can create your profile through one of your social networks (linkedin, facebook etc). Then with this profile you can create a business card for different occasions. So you can have your engineering business card for the mornings and your musician business card for the evening. No need to carry physical cards, all you need is your phone. When you meet someone at an event, just scroll down to the card you want to show, and send it to them direct from the app. There is also a bar code which they can scan. Excellent idea! Folks this app has potential, and much like its namesake in the movie “princess bride”, the inigo app is telling business card printshops everywhere one thing….. “prepare to die!” 🙂
