GITHUB MEETUP … Celestine Omin Recounts The Experience

Posted by Somto Fab-Ukozor on October 20, 2014 in Uncategorized | 155 Views

The maiden edition of the Lagos GitHub Meetup (LGM) happened in September but its effect would be felt for a long time. Tech enthusiasts and practitioners showed up in great numbers, making this tech event one of the biggest ever held tech event at the co-creation hub.

The lead convener, Celestine Omin, conducted the event from start to finish. His message was the role of version control in the software development life cycle. He facilitated a hands-on training with the participants on how to use Git (arguably the best version control software yet) and GitHub. Unfortunately, the invited speakers were not present; however, they sent a video presentation on how GitHub as a company utilizes Git.

The highlights of the events include having participants also view a mini documentary on how Git and GitHub is changing the face of software development, open source projects and also the power of its effective collaboration in a way that was not possible before now. The participants equally learnt how different sectors from oil and gas, entertainment to commerce etc harness these tools for their own benefits. This proved a wonderful platform for interaction and networking.
