Purple and Nine: An Animation To Boost The Confidence Of Young Females

Posted by Somto Fab-Ukozor on January 20, 2016 in techsommy, Women in Tech | 73 Views

“The idea for Gangly Sister Productions came when founders Miriam and Rebecca asked the burning question “If those dudes can raise 5 million dollars for that startup idea, why can’t we?”

Gangly Sister announces the release of Purple and Nine, a comic book series featuring non-geeks who love science and technology. The mission of Gangly Sister is to encourage girls in STEM and to transform how girls are portrayed in the media. In this series, the characters are Purple and Nine. Purple loves technology and Nine wants to save the world, so together they set out to solve the world’s problems using new inventions.

According to them, “The main thing kids are dealing with is what kind of adult they want to be. Developmentally, between the ages of 7 and 12, kids are exploring who they want to be as adults. Tellingly, the girls in the video say they want to be doctors, princesses and ballerinas, but none of them said they wanted to be a scientist or engineer.” . In this series, their creation is multi-dimensional hence, targeting girls and helping them to embrace all the parts of their personality.
