The 30th annual Will Eisner Comic Book Industry Awards were handed out Friday at a gala ceremony at San Diego Comic-Con and the biggest winners were women, creators of color and monsters.
Celebrities including Star Trek’s Nichelle Nichols, voice actor Phil Lamarr, “Supergirl”‘s Helen Slater and actress/entrepreneur Felicia Day were among the presenters at the event, which honored the best comics and graphic literature produced in 2017.
“Monstress”, the young adult fantasy-adventure series from Image Comics, netted five awards including Best Continuing Series, Best Publication for Teens, a best writer award for Marjorie Liu (in a tie with popular superhero writer Tom King), and best cover artist and best painter for artist Sana Takeda.
